The Townswomen’s Guild is a national women’s organisation,
second only to the W.I. in size, and the objects of the
organisation are “to advance the education of women,
irrespective of race, creed and party so as to enable
them to make the best contribution towards the common
good.”
This year, like most of the other guilds throughout the
U.K. , we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the
founding of the Townswomen’s Guild movement.
To celebrate the millennium
we donated a bench to Kenilworth town, and this is sited
at the top of Abbey Fields.
Our Guild meetings are held on the second Wednesday of
each month in the church hall adjacent to St John’s
Church, Warwick Road, Kenilworth, from 7.30pm to 10pm.
There is an annual subscription, and we each pay £1.00
per month for the evening’s entertainment and
refreshments.
We have a speaker at approximately 9 out of our 12
meetings a year and the meetings without a speaker are
social occasions, e.g. the Christmas Party in December,
or a cheese and wine evening.
Our members share in craft meetings, nature walks, games
evenings, book evenings, and we enjoy outings to places
of interest, theatres, etc..
Each Guild is a registered charity and we have
fundraising events throughout the year, most often in
members’ homes, and we have at least one fundraiser
annually which is open to the general public.
