Kenilworth Town Centre Businesses open,
trading and happy (to see you)
Kenilworth Town Centre businesses and
business organisations are urging residents
not to desert the town centre because of a
misplaced view that the town centre is
inaccessible.
Town Centre Manager, Joe Baconnet, is
concerned that residents and visitors may
not have realised that the town centre is
open and actually very easy to get around.
“Clearly works of this magnitude have an
impact, but the Severn Trent works start at
Waverley Road and will head towards the Jet
Garage at St Johns, so there is very little
impact on the town centre itself.”
He continued “Severn Trent should be clear
of the junction with Waverley Road by the
end of this week (2nd May) and that will
make things a lot, lot easier.”
To highlight the fact that the town centre
is unaffected by Severn Trent, some
businesses are planning special promotions
to encourage customers to continue shopping,
eating and drinking in the town centre.
Bill Campbell, Manager of Sainsbury’s is
bullish about the prospects for the next few
weeks “I’m surprised how easy it is to get
around town at the moment. The expected
traffic chaos hasn’t happened at all and I’m
pleased that we should be getting additional
reassurance signage for the town centre
saying we are all open for business. It’s
good that Severn Trent have also implemented
a signage scheme that clearly directs
visitors around the works to the town’s car
parks.”
Cllr Andrew Mobbs, chair of the Count on
Kenilworth group Is also urging residents
and visitors to make the effort “we’ve
produced a great map to help people find
their way around and I know the town centre
has a whole host of businesses happy and
waiting to see you.”
Sue Powell of Kenilworth chamber of Trade is
concerned that the right messages are being
given to everyone “Kenilworth town centre
and the businesses there are open and it’s
key that everyone understands that”
