Abbey Fields, Kenilworth has been highly valued
throughout history and it is important that we play our
part in ensuring the Abbey Fields are there for future
generations to enjoy, as past generations have done for
us.
It was partly to try to enhance the Fields as a habitat
for wildlife that led to the formation of Friends of Abbey
Fields about four years ago. Our aims included trying to
ensure the environment is not degraded by litter,
vandalism or inappropriate use; to enhance the Fields as a
habitat for wildlife; to raise public awareness about the
historic, aesthetic, wildlife and amenity value of Abbey
Fields, and to encourage the public to participate in its
protection for future generations. We currently have a
committee of eight people and nearly 150 members, many of
whom take part in some of our activities and all of whom
receive a quarterly newsletter. These activities have
included litter-picking, fund-raising, bird-watching,
bat-watching, and even a moth-evening. We work closely
with Warwick District Council and many of our activities
take place in conjunction with them.
