Finally we are able to announce that Waitrose has been revealed as the supermarket of choice for Talisman Square developers, Discovery Properties Ltd.

The exchange of contracts comes following lengthy discussions and negotiations between Warwick District Council, Discovery Properties and Warwickshire County Council. The first Waitrose in Warwickshire will be in Kenilworth, and the food arm of retail giant John Lewis will create a 25,000 sq ft supermarket in the heart of the town centre helping to lead it’s regeneration.

The agreement (between the three parties) will deliver:-

  • a new 25,000 sq ft Waitrose food store (43,000 sq ft gross) located much further away from the houses in Bertie Road - (subject to planning permission);
  • improvements and extensions to the existing Talisman Square shopping centre;
  • a new youth centre of equal standard to be located in the town centre (subject to planning permission);
  • improved vehicle access over Abbey End car park to reduce any traffic impact on residential areas;
  • This announcement means that the level of investment in this scheme will be close to £20 million.

Hugo Hawkings of Discovery Properties, says of the deal,

“We are thrilled to have secured Waitrose who we believe will give a huge boost to the town in general and to our existing tenants in Talisman Square. Following our recent planning application we agreed to work with the council to try to address some of the issues raised; whilst it has taken longer than all parties would have liked to get to this stage we believe this proposal will provide Kenilworth with what it needs to put a heart back into the town centre: a quality foodstore and a refurbished and extended Talisman Square.”
