Kenilworth Community in Action
10am – 4pm on Saturday 10th February at the Methodist Church, Priory Road

In the morning –
A conference for volunteers and groups across Warwickshire.

After lunch –
A fair with a guest speaker where the general public can attend talks and browse displays presented by the Kenilworth’s voluntary groups.

The morning’s programme of talks:

  • Michelle Brodie from Groundwork: Tesco’s ‘Bags of Help’ & the OneStop’s ‘Carriers for Causes’ grant schemes.
  • Michelle Brodie from Groundwork: The HS2 Community and Environment Fund is available to local communities to help with the disruption that will be caused by the construction of Phase one of HS2.
  • Helen Wilson from Warwickshire CAVA: Recruiting & retaining volunteers.
  • Ellen Alcock from Heart of England Community Foundation: What makes a good funding application?
  • Caroline Bates: Dementia awareness workshop promoting the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends movement & Dementia Friendly Communities.


In the afternoon:

  • Monica Fogarty, joint chief executive of Warwickshire County Council will talk about opportunities presented by the new Kenilworth station.
  • Several 5-minute presentations by Kenilworth voluntary groups selected to illustrate the benefits of volunteering and the wide range of opportunities in the town.
  • Caroline Bates offers a dementia awareness workshop promoting the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends movement & Dementia Friendly Communities.
  • Displays by Kenilworth voluntary groups who can use this opportunity to talk to visitors about their activities.


Also present at the event will be Warwickshire CAVA, which will be promoting its volunteer matching service, and Community Energy Warwickshire which provides grants for improving the energy efficiency of community buildings.
Catering is in the capable hands of Waverley Ranger Guides and leaders who will be raising funds for their trip to Iceland. They will be serving a soup-and-ploughman’s lunch for £5 which can be booked on arrival and offering refreshments throughout the day.

This event is being organised by volunteers from various community groups and supported by the Methodist Church so attendance is free. However, pre-booking is required for the morning conference session.
