Kenilworth Mayor, Councillor Kate Dickson was delighted to unveil the new Mayoral Bench sited in the grounds of Kenilworth Castle. The bench has been commissioned as a Project with Warwickshire College, led by Jamie Ward, the Curriculum Leader of Furniture Crafts, and made by student Matt Brown.
The Bench is a replacement for a previous model and serves as a Memorial for the Past Mayors of the Town who have passed away. It is hoped that residents and visitors to Kenilworth will enjoy the bench as they visit the Castle. The curved Bench is fitted around the trunk of an ancient oak tree and is an excellent place to enjoy a picnic!
Cllr Mrs Dickson says “ It has been a pleasure for the Council to work with a local young craftsman. We are now able to replace the old unsafe memorial bench with this beautiful seat which suits the heritage setting perfectly.”
The Town Council would love to see photographs of the bench in action over the Summer and invite photos to be uploaded onto Instagram and taggged @KenilworthWeb – the Mayor will award a prize of Afternoon Tea for two at the castle for her favourite photograph.
