Richard Hales has lived in Kenilworth for over 30 years & has been an active member of the local community. He was previously Chair of the Kenilworth Chamber of Trade from 2013-2016 and has been involved in numerous events, including supporting and organising ‘Buy One Present in Kenilworth’ at Christmas and also hosting regular events for the Business Sector within the Town. He has also been an active member of the Kenilworth Town Centre Partnership encouraging communication & ideas across the town business & retailers.
He also helped arrange the largest Business Fair the Town has ever had, with over 75 stands and featuring Lord Digby Jones as the key speaker. Richard is also an active member as a Community Governor at Kenilworth School from 2012 to present and is Vice Chair of the Site Working Group looking at the development of the new secondary school. Richard was also selected in 2017 as the Enterprise Advisor for the school, whereby he is working with the school to help develop their relationships with local businesses in Kenilworth. This involves working closely with those businesses and the school to assist the pupils in their career development, including arranging ‘mock’ interviews and work placements.
Previously he was on the Council at Kenilworth Wardens where he helped run a senior football team whilst also running a Sunday football team from The Tiltyard. He has arranged a number of charity events at Kenilworth Wardens in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, Breast Cancer Campaign and also the cancer wards at Warwick Hospital and has raised over £30,000.
In 2018 Richard was appointed Chair of Finance and General Services for the Town Council, he sits on the Planning committee and actively supports other groups.
He has been Chair of the Kenilworth Lights committee since 2016, and alongside a group of hard-working volunteers, he was responsible for delivering the new Christmas lights for Warwick Road, Leyes Lane & Oaks Precinct and is actively planning the lights for 2018.
He has run his own recruitment business within the town for the last 10 years, and is married with young twin boys.
